National Poetry Month – Day 11

Just to Feel Close

I brush my skin
against your knee
underneath the bar
just to feel close

To feel alive.

I drive the long way to work
hoping that I will see you
riding your bike.

My heart freezes in my chest
a pale, cold, ache
like frostbite
when I see your face

As I fall asleep
alone,
the sheets tangled
around my feet,
your name whispers
through my lips

Just to feel close.
