National Poetry Month – Day 8

Today’s poem comes from a poetry prompt found on Creative Writing Now: Write a poem using three of the following words: expensive, lampshade, bruise, convincing.

The bruise was already

blossoming on her cheek

Her legs folded beneath her

broken lamp on the floor

her hands clinging to the beige lampshade

shards of glass surrounding

The broken vase was expensive

easy to replace

it would be harder to tell

a convincing lie

to her husband

why

did she let that man into her life.
